North Mississippi is the taproot of blues in the Americana Music Triangle. Ground zero in North Mississippi is Clarksdale, the town containing the original “crossroads” of U.S. 49 & U.S. 61. Over the years, it has struggled to actually be a place to hear live music but is experiencing a resurgence with opportunities to hear live music in and around the area on most, if not every, night of the week. One of the people that helped spark that resurgence is Roger Stolle, the very approachable proprietor of Cathead Delta Blues & Folk Art. His shop is an eclectic combination of blues recordings, folk art, and general memorabilia about the blues of the Mississippi Delta. If you are checking out Clarksdale, his shop is a good place to start for live music opportunities … and to take home your own memories of Clarksdale blues.
