Historically, New Orleans has not been a town real deep in blues legends. The same can’t be said for Louisiana as a whole. Early on New Years’ Day we lost one of the last of a generation – Tabby Thomas, out of Baton Rouge. He was most well-known for hosting ‘Tabby’ Thomas’ Blues Box at two different locations in Baton Rouge and, indirectly, as the father of next-generation blues man Chris Thomas King, probably best known for his role in “O Brother Where Art Thou”.
There’s a tribute event to him on Tuesday at the Manship Theatre in Baton Rouge. If you’re in the neighborhood, drop by and say goodbye in person.
