MOURNING THE LOSS OF REGIONAL MUSIC ON KLRZ-FM

As of January 1st, KLRZ-FM (100.3) out of LaRose dumped their Swamp Pop format and converted to an ESPN affiliate.  What a disappointing loss.  They were an absolutely unique sound that could be found only in Louisiana.  I probably listened to them more than any local music station here in New Orleans.  Now they are a sound that could be heard … well, pretty much anywhere.

The music is still available on their sister station KLEB-AM (1600), but it’s just not the same.  It’s only AM audio quality and the reception in New Orleans is not as good as the FM channel.  It would seem like the music is a better fit for the audio quality of FM and the sports perfectly suitable for an AM bandwidth.

… not tragic but … sad.
